Montenegro country facts
  • Montenegro means “Black Mountain,” a name first used by Venetian sailors referring to Mount Lovćen’s dark forests.
  • The Bay of Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, often described as one of Europe’s most stunning natural harbours.
  • Both Montenegro and Serbia were unified for approximately 3 years from 2003 to 2006. Montenegro regained its independence from Serbia in 2006 following a national referendum.
