  • Grenada is made up of three islands (Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique), with the main island being the largest and most populated.
  • Hurricane Ivan in 2004 destroyed a large number of nutmeg trees, leading to cocoa emerging as a major export for the island in the years that followed.
  • The Molinière Bay Underwater Sculpture Park was built in 2006 and is the first of its kind in the world, with over 65 sculptures on the seabed that have become home to marine life.
  • There are 18 waterfalls across Grenada. The tallest, Tufton Hall, is 25 metres high and can only be reached by a long rainforest hike.
  • Rum has been made in Grenada since the 1600s. River Antoine Distillery has been running since 1785 and still uses water power and traditional equipment.
  • The national dish, “Oil Down”, is a stew made with breadfruit, coconut milk, salted meats, dumplings and vegetables, all cooked together until the coconut oil is soaked up.
