  • Egypt straddles two continents, with the Sinai Peninsula serving as a land bridge between Africa and Southwest Asia. 
  • Ancient Egyptians developed the 12-month calendar, similar to the one we use today. This solar calendar was designed to align with the yearly inundation of the Nile River.
  • The third most populated country in Africa, Egypt has a population of over 112 million. The top two positions are held by Nigeria with 223 million followed by Ethiopia with 126 million.
  • The Statue of Liberty was originally intended to stand at the entrance of the Suez Canal with the name ‘Egypt Bringing Light to Asia’. Nothing came of this project, and Bartholdi was commissioned to build the statue in New York Harbour.
  • Egypt is home to 7 UNESCO Sites. These are Abu Mena, the Necropolis of Thebes, historic Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza, the Nubian monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae, the Saint Catherine’s Area and Whale Valley. 
  • Cuisines such as koshari, ful medames, ta’Meya (Falafel), baba ganoush, and molokhia - to name only a few - reflect a fusion of the many historical layers of the country's past.
